Creative Communities is a partnership-supported, programme embedded within the Clyde Gateway area; linking audiences and communities to regeneration projects, community centres, libraries, existing art, heritage and sports development.

Originally launched as part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games cultural strategy, Velocity has grown into a vibrant, year-round programme. In 2024–25 alone, it delivered 169 workshops, 2,545 engagements and 8 public performances — all made possible through the support of Clyde Gateway and Glasgow Life.

NHS Restart: Creativity and Connection Through Writing NHS Restart is a peer-support group for individuals living with long-term mental health conditions, and a vital part of the Creative Communities programme. Through weekly creative writing sessions led by writer and director John Binnie, participants have explored personal stories, social issues, and environmental themes. Their work has been performed across Glasgow — from schools and festivals to community centres — offering powerful, authentic voices that inspire connection and understanding.

Creative Learning at Cuningar Loop One of this year’s standout projects explored the geothermal potential of Cuningar Loop. Pupils from St. Anne’s Primary and NHS Restart writers collaborated on a play about renewable energy, combining science, storytelling and performance in a powerful community showcase.

Voices That Inspire From the Singing for Fun group to the NHS Restart Writers, Creative Communities provides a platform for people to express themselves, build confidence and connect with others. Their stories — sometimes joyful, sometimes deeply personal — are at the heart of what makes this programme so impactful.
